Sevier County crash claims life of Tazewell woman

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A Tazewell woman was killed in a Sevier County wreck early Wednesday morning.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says it happened at 12:10 a.m. on Chapman Highway near Zion Hill Road.

Troopers say 26-year-old Leslie Perkey, of Tazewell, was driving her 2007 Mazda north on Chapman Highway, when she crossed the center line near Zion Hill Road.

THP says Perkey drove off the road, hit a guard rail and went over an embankment. Officials say her car flipped twice and then hit a parked minivan.

Perkey was killed in the crash. Troopers say she was not wearing a seat belt.

A 2-year-old in Perkey's car was not injured in the wreck.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
