SURGOINSVILLE (WATE) - The family of a Hawkins County girl who died in 2012 after police say she was forced to drink grape soda are now accepting donations from the public to purchase a headstone.

The half sisters, mother and a former teacher of 5-year-old Alexa Linboom are now taking donations.

Linboom's grave is currently marked with a printed piece of paper in a plastic case.

Randall and Mary Vaughn, the girl's father and stepmother, have been charged with murder, abuse and neglect. Police say they forced Alexa to drink about 2.4 liters of soda and water over a one to two hour span as punishment.

The massive liquid intake caused her brain to swell and herniate.
