Elderly man robbed at gunpoint in his Anderson County garage

ANDERSONVILLE (WATE) - The Anderson County Sheriff's Department is looking for the man suspected of robbing an elderly man in his own garage.

Deputies say the 83-year-old man was working in his garage on Andersonville Highway Tuesday just after noon, asking if he had a belt for a Ford tractor.

When the victim said no, the suspect then pulled a small handgun from his pocket, saying, "I don't need a tractor belt. I want your money."

The victim told deputies the suspect felt his pockets for his wallet and removed both wallets from his pants. One contained approximately $90 in cash. The other had a $100 bill.

The suspect took all the cash as well as the keys to the victim's 2000 Buick, told the victim to sit down in the garage, and said the victim should get his car back "soon."

The victim was not injured.

Deputies found the car a short distance away on Indian Gap Road, but there was no sign of the suspect.

The suspect was wearing a dark green jacket, dirty blue jeans and a black toboggan.
