New education facility in Blount County to bring 300 jobs

ALCOA (WATE) - For-profit education technology company K12 Inc. is planning a Blount County family support campus, bringing 300 new jobs to the area.

K12 says it will initially hire 300 Tennesseeans and is making a capital investment of over $2.4 million over the course of five years. The new jobs are in addition to the 140 teachers and educators already employed by K12 throughout the state.

K12 says employees at the family support campus will help families who are exploring new educational programs and options for their children, providing information and answering questions about K12's academic programs.

All open positions will be posted on K12's careers website under the location Alcoa. Current openings include enrollment consultants, supervisors and a trainer.

K12 Inc. provides online classes to students around the United States.

K12's Tennessee Virtual Academy, which began offering classes in August 2011 is administered by Union County officials. The academy came under fire last year for alleged grade fixing.

TNVA responded on its website, saying it has done nothing wrong and said that changing grading policies is common in most schools.
