KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A 12-year-old girl was transported to UT Medical Center Sunday morning with what Rural/Metro says were non-life threatening injuries following a wreck on Central Avenue.

KPD says the driver of a church bus, William Whitehead, 78, was traveling on Central Avenue around 9 a.m. when he swerved to avoid a turning vehicle. Whitehead lost control and struck a telephone pole before striking an oncoming semi-truck driven by Robert Coleman, 45.

The bus was carrying six passengers plus the driver at the time of the crash. Traffic was diverted to Coster Road following the crash.

Aiyanna Perry, 12, was taken to the hospital where she was treated and released.

The church bus was registered to Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle at 2439 Magnolia Avenue.
