Knoxville police investigate two early morning armed robberies


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Police Department is investigating two early Monday morning armed robberies.

The first happened around 6:41 a.m. at a bus stop at 5201 North Broadway. Two female victims said as they were waiting at the stop, a suspect approached them from behind, pushed one of the women to the ground and stole her backpack.

He then grabbed the other woman's purse and ran toward a vehicle, described as a mid-sized, silver four-door sedan.

The suspect was wearing all black and had a black ski mask over his face.

Officers responded to another robbery around 7:51 a.m. at the Super Wash house, 2319 North Central Street.

The male victim told officers two suspects came in and robbed him at gunpoint while he was doing laundry.

The victim said one suspect was wearing a camouflage jacket with a camouflage bandana across his face. The suspect was armed with a handgun.

The second suspect was wearing a brown jacket, a white bandana across his face and was unarmed.

The victim said the suspects took his wallet, keys and cell phone, then ran away. The victim was not injured.

It is not yet known if the two incidents were connected.
