KNOXVILLE (WATE) - U.S. Senate candidate Terry Adams formally launched his campaign on Tuesday, and he did so with a direct challenge to the man he's trying to unseat.

Adams stopped by Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander's office to call on Alexander to support a minimum wage increase.

Alexander recently said that he doesn't support a minimum wage hike because it would cost Tennesseans job and that there are better solutions out there.

Adams, a Democrat, is in the process of a two-day, six-city tour across the state. He intends to make stops in Nashville, Jackson, and Memphis on Wednesday.

Adams is one of two Democrats challenging Alexander. Knoxville attorney Gordon Ball submitted his bid for the Democratic primary last week.

State Representative Joe Carr opposes Alexander for the Republican ticket.

Election Day for the primary is set for August 7th.
