Knoxville police investigating attempted robbery, shooting

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police are investigating after an attempted robbery and shooting in the Western Heights community.

Police say they were called to the 800 block of Beaumont Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday.

The two victims said they pulled up to an apartment on Scott Avenue when they were approached by at least three men. One suspect demanded their money while the other two tried to get into the victims' 1995 Ford Thunderbird.

The driver sped off. While fleeing, the victims heard gunshots. The vehicle was hit about four times.

The car stalled and came to a stop on Beaumont Avenue. Suspects in two difference vehicles boxed the victims in and again demanded money.

One suspect jumped onto the hood and started kicking in the windshield.

The male victim got out of the car and was struck in the mouth by the suspect with the gun.

The victim then got back in the car and started screaming they were calling 911. The suspects then fled.

A vehicle possibly used by one of the suspects was located on Scott Avenue and towed for processing. The Dodge Durango appears to have been stolen.

The victim's vehicle was also towed for evidence processing.

The suspects are all black men in their late 20s or early 30s. One is 5-feet-9, 175 pounds with collar length dreadlocks and wearing dark clothing. The second is around 6 feet tall with a medium build, clean shaven with a short fade haircut, wearing a white and black racing or sport jacket. The third suspect is around 5-feet-10 with a medium build and dark clothing.

Police do not believe the incident was random.
