JELLICO (WATE) - A former Campbell County special education teacher has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of her fiance.

Lisa Elliott, 47, was indicted by a grand jury last Friday.

Officials say she is accused of shooting her fiance, 53-year-old Larry Champlin, to death in what authorities called an alcohol-fueled fight.

Elliott's daughter told 6 News the couple had been drinking that night, and that her mother acted in self defense.

Elliott had initially been charged with criminal homicide and was released on $150,000 bond.

If convicted of second-degree murder, she could face a prison sentence of eight to 12 years in prison.
