KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Fire Chaser Express roller coaster may be the biggest new attraction at Dollywood this year, but that's not the only change to the park.

Crews were busy during the off season making several improvements to Show Street. It's one of the first spots guests see at the park and Dollywood officials are hoping the upgrades will help set the tone for their entire visit.

When you enter the front gates, you will be met by one of the biggest changes, a brand new entryway and plaza.

"The whole experience is about how you feel when you enter the park and what you hear and all of those things," said PR Director Pete Owens.

The Dollywood logo and trademark butterfly will now proudly greet visitors. Two and a half million people are expected to take a picture with it just this year alone.

The Palace Theatre was also given a brand new look that will shine bright over the plaza.

Crews also gave subtle makeovers to some of the buildings that line Show Street, while completely rebuilding others.

"All of it is going to be just kind of an organic facelift for this part of the park so that families will have a better experience," said Owens.

Crews worked almost non-stop during the off season to complete the improvements.

"We've had folks that have been working very very long days and some evenings seven days a week to get all of this work done," said Owens.

The harsh winter didn't help make the work any easier. but they say all the long hours are worth it when the crowds come back through the gates.

The park officially opens to the public Saturday at 10 a.m. and will stay open until 8 p.m.
