PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - Dollywood kicked off its seasonal grand opening Friday with a special appearance from Dolly Parton to unveil their newest attraction.

6 News sat down with Parton to talk about all the growth at Dollywood after they unveiled their newest ride, the Fire Chaser Express.

"It's always exciting for me to come home every year. This is our 29th season. I cannot believe it because it feels like it was just five or six years ago, but every year we try to make it a point to add something that'll be fun for families," said Parton.

This year's addition is deemed a family coaster, enjoyable by all ages.

Dolly Parton showed up to unveil the attraction with a little show.

"We try to have themes with all the things that we do, and this is kind of appreciating the firefighters back in the forties that were the volunteer firefighters," she said.

In honor of that theme, they treated local firefighters to the first rides.

"It was a great opportunity. What Dollywood does for the community and everything and this ride us just unbelievable. It's great. It's a good family ride," said Erik Breske with the Pigeon Forge Fire Department.

Parton says seeing the park grow is something she is incredibly proud of.

"I'm the perfect person to have a theme park. I always say I'm just the girl next door, as long as you live next to a circus," Parton said.

As they continue to move forward, she says it makes her appreciate her career even more.

"Here I am at this age still living it, still creating new dreams, still doing new things."

Next year on Dollywood's 30th anniversary, they plan to open the Dollywood Resort, which Parton says has been a dream since the day they opened the park.

Season opening at Dollywood for regular ticket holders is Saturday. For tickets, visit Dollywood's ticket page
