SWEETWATER (WATE) - A group of military moms in Monroe County held a homecoming, 40 years in the making Friday.

The Mountain Valley Blue Star Mothers organized a parade and procession as a way to thank Vietnam veterans who live in Monroe County.

The Blue Star Mothers have soldiers of their own and know the importance of a warm welcome home after being overseas. That's the kind of welcome many of these veterans never had the chance to experience.

Tina Moses is a Blue Star mother and helped organize the event.  She hopes the veterans in attendance Friday know they have not been forgotten.

"We're wanting to give them that recognition of what our sons and daughters are getting now," Moses said.

Time was also set aside for remembering those who lost their lives during and after the war during Friday's celebrations.
