Pigeon Forge fire department replacing 24 year old ladder truck

PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - The City of Pigeon Forge announced Tuesday that their fire department is adding a new 100 foot ladder truck to its fleet on Wednesday, March 26.

The new ladder truck will replace the current ladder truck which has been in operation for 24 years. Fire officials stated that due to the height and size of buildings and tourist attractions in Pigeon Forge that it is imperative that a reliable ladder truck be available for fire suppression and rescue operations.

The new ladder truck is said to be equipped the latest state-of-the-art equipment and that its overall design will be easier for firefighters to maneuver, possibly saving time during emergency situations.

The tip of the ladder extends 100 feet and will hold up to 1,000 pounds of equipment and/or personnel. The ladder is also equipped with two spray nozzles that can be operated remotely.

Fire department staff will go through several days of training focusing on driver safety and ladder operation.
