BALTIMORE (WATE) - Former Grace Christian Academy football player Will McKamey died while in a coma Tuesday, according to the U.S. Naval Academy.

This comes after the 19-year-old running back collapsed during a Navy spring football practice on Saturday.

Will's mother, Kara McKamey, addressed her friends on Facebook:

"My dear friends and family, William Dean McKamey met his Lord and Savior this afternoon. There are no words to describe the pain our family feels right now, However we are rejoicing that Will is now on the fields of Heaven...running the football! I know that we were all praying for a miracle, and we were able to see the miracle of Will entering heaven today. My friends please focus your prayers now on Randy and I and our immediate family as we deal with the upcoming days. We love you all and we are overcome with the way you rallied behind us. Will was able to change the spirit of a community, a school and a Navy football team...without really saying a word. He led a wonderful Christian life and I'm so thankful that God chose me to be his mother for 19 years! ‪#‎livelikewill‬"

The U.S. Naval Academy released this statement:

"During this most difficult of times, first and foremost, our prayers and thoughts turn to Randy, Kara and their beautiful family," said Ken Niumatalolo, USNA Head Football Coach. "Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to their entire family and friends. As our Navy football family mourns the loss of one of our brothers, we also celebrate and honor his life. He loved his family, his friends and his teammates. The Brotherhood loves you! Keep the ball 'high and tight' in Heaven."

McKamey was an Oceanography major in 3rd Company at the Naval Academy.

McKamey's alma mater, Grace Christian Academy, showed support for their former star player by painting the rock outside of the school with the hashtag #WILLMIRACLE.

After McKamey passed away, hundreds of tweets with the hashtag #LiveLikeWill flooded Twitter.

McKamey was hospitalized in 2012 with a brain injury after suffering a ruptured blood vessel during a high school football game.  6 News spoke to him throughout his recovery.  McKamey was later cleared to play football by neurologists.

The Navy says funeral arrangements are pending.

The Grace Christian Academy Rams football team is asking community members to pray for the McKamey family at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
