KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A number of road projects are going on in the Knoxville area, including one that begins Friday night.

Beginning at 7 p.m., north and southbound lanes of Interstate 275 will be reduced from two lanes to one lane under I-640 for overhead bridge repairs.

Meanwhile, a number of viewers emailed us this week, asking about the Western Avenue improvement project.

With winter now behind us, look for work along Western to intensify. In the next few days and weeks, expect to see grading operations, the installation of new storm drain pipe, sewer relocation work, and utility relocations.

This project officially kicked off  in February 2011. The estimated completion date is April 2015. Therefore, about one more year of construction remains. The cost is just over $31 million..

If you travel I-40 east of downtown, prepare for lane closures and lane shifts near Rutledge Pike as crews perform bridge repairs. The work will run around the clock through Thursday.

Nightly lane closures will also begin Sunday along Maynardville Highway from just north of Emory Road to the Union County line. Crews will be paving and setting portable barrier rails each night through Thursday.
