Officials try to curb off-roading at Bays Mountain

Posted: Updated:

KINGSPORT (AP) - Officials at Bays Mountain Park in East Tennessee say they are taking steps to reduce the amount of off-roading at the nature preserve.

Bays Mountain naturalist Fred Hilton told the Kingsport Times-News that the move comes because serious damage is being done to areas of the park.

Hilton says officials aren't against four wheeling, but a nature preserve isn't the place for it.

He says no trespassing signs are being posted along areas that are popular with off-roaders. Park officials have also asked the Kingsport Police Department patrol the area, which could mean citations for violators.
