Oak Ridge High School student suspect in vehicle arson

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Police in Oak Ridge say they have identified a man suspected of intentionally setting a vehicle on fire in an elementary school parking lot earlier this month.

Police and fire personnel were sent to Linden Elementary School on March 8 around 6:20 p.m. The Oak Ridge Fire Department determined the fire was arson.

Police department school resource officers reviewed surveillance tapes, showing a man walking toward the car with a brick in his hand.

Officers determined the man in the video was Oak Ridge High School student Jovon Brooks, 18, who lives in the neighborhood near Linden.

Detectives interviewed Brooks, who confessed to starting the fire.

Other intentionally set fires in the Linden are under investigation and may be linked to this case.

Charges are pending against Brooks.
