Tenn. House approves Lake City name change

NASHVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee State House of Representatives passed a bill Monday evening, approving Lake City's name change to "Rocky Top."

The bill approving the name change passed on a vote of 89 to zero, with three abstaining.

It includes an amendment saying the move can go through only if it does not put the state in violation of federal law.

City leaders approved the name change last year to go along with a proposed a theme park.

That prompted a lawsuit from the House of Bryant, owners of the rights to the song "Rocky Top," claiming it violates their trademark.
