KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Coach Cuonzo Martin is in demand after taking the Vols to the Sweet 16. The latest report from ESPN says Martin actually met with officials from Marquette on Sunday to discuss their head coaching job.

While fans are wondering whether their winning coach will be hired away, just a few weeks ago some were hoping UT would cut him loose. Remember thE petition to bring back Bruce Pearl?

After the recent success, going to the Sweet 16, watching the team play their heart out and improve over the season, many fans are now backing Coach Martin. The thought of him leaving Rocky Top has some fans very concerned.

UT Vol fans 6 News spoke with are in full support of UT Head Basketball Coach Cuonzo Martin after taking the team to the Sweet 16.

"I don't think as many people expected them to get there and it was so exciting to see them accomplish and get that far and it was super exciting watching the games," said UT Vols fan Carleisha Hans.

According to ESPN.com, Martin has met with officials at Marquette about their head coach opening. The possibility of having coach martin leave is unsettling for many Vols fans.

"I definitely want Cuonzo to stay. He's been a good coach, led us to the Sweet 16. That's good in and of itself," said Vol fan Parker Guersnsey.

"We really appreciate what he's done so far and we want to keep him here so he can keep going and keep helping our team," said UT fan Ellen Bearden.

The UT students admit throughout the season, some in the fan base did have doubt about what Coach Martin could accomplish but now say he seems to have their full support.

"Sadly there was some initial doubt in him but I think he's proven himself as a strong coach and the right coach for our team so I want him to stay definitely," said Guersnsey.

The fans 6 News spoke with hope he stays at Rocky Top and takes the team to the Elite 8 next season.

"I think hopefully he'll stay and I think they'll get farther next year. It just takes the hard work and I think he knows what he's doing," said Hans.

"We love you and we want you to stay for sure," said Guersnsey.

The fans 6 News spoke with think under Coach Martin the team will improve each year. Martin just completed his third season at Tennessee. The Vols have increased their win total each year since he's been coaching.
