FOURMILE, Ky. (WATE) – A routine traffic stop ended in a foot chase for a Kentucky State Trooper Tuesday.

Trooper Joey Brigmon attempted to make a traffic stop for a speeding violation on U.S. 25-E in Bell County. Roger Ramey, 49, of Pineville, Ky. pulled his vehicle into a driveway and ran from Trooper Brigmon, jumping into the Cumberland River.

Backup was called to help pull Ramey from the river after he refused to return to land. Ramey was in the river for about an hour.

Troopers were finally able to arrest Ramey and take him to Pineville Hospital for medical treatment. He was released Tuesday evening and transported to the Bell County Detention Center.

Ramey faces fourteen charges including fleeing on foot, resisting arrest, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and possession of open alcohol in a vehicle.

The case is still under investigation.
