Ice Bears shutout Pensacola in series opener


Pensacola, Fla. (WATE) - The Knoxville Ice Bears picked up an impressive 2-0 win over defending league champion Pensacola in the opening game of the SPHL semifinals on Thursday night.

The Bears lead the best-of-three series 1-0.

Knoxville goalie Bryan Hince stopped 51 Pensacola shots on the way to the win.

After a scoreless first period, the Ice Bears struck first when Ben Souders scored at 11:33 of the second. Corey Fulton and Brad Pawlowski assisted.

David Segal made it 2-0 Knoxville at 5:09 of the third period. Francis Drolet assisted.

The Bears are unbeaten in SPHL postseason play after sweeping a first round playoff series with Louisiana.

Knoxville returns home for game two on Saturday night at the Civic Coliseum.

A win will put the Bears in the SPHL finals against either Columbus or Huntsville.
