4 teens to return to Greene County to face charges in murder case

Posted: Updated:

NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP/WATE) - The four Tennessee teens who led police on a 10-hour chase last week waived extradition at a court hearing Monday in South Carolina.

All four acknowledged they had charges in Tennessee and agreed not to fight their return.

Newberry County, S.C. will work with officials in Greene County, Tenn. to arrange their return.

Authorities say the teenagers are expected to appear before a judge in juvenile court on Monday in Abbeville County.

Police have said Zachary Blanchard, 16, Shelby Riley, 16, Daniel Birchfield Jr., 15, and Liam Lawler, 15, fled Greene County after Blanchard allegedly killed his father, Robert Blanchard, 36.

Police have said the teens took at least eight guns from Greene County. They also face accessory and theft charges in Newberry County.

Authorities have not given a timeline for the teens' extradition to Tennessee.
