BEAUFORT, N.C. - A Beaufort man is accused of going on a crime spree early Saturday morning.

It happened in Marshallberg.

Deputies say that residents on Ray Davis Rd. woke up to find their vehicles rummaged through and one was even missing.

42-year-old Terrence William Conklin is accused of attempting to break into a home in addition to several vehicles and stealing one, in which deputies caught him still inside.

The first call came in around 2 a.m. when homeowners on Ray Davis Rd. say they threw a bottle of water at the suspect in an attempt to get Conklin to leave their home after he attempted to break in with a slate “welcome” sign. Deputies caught up with Conklin, who they say, was slumped over the steering wheel of the stolen vehicle.

Conklin was charged with five counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, and one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, attempted breaking and entering of a vehicle, and one count of attempted first degree burglary of a residence. He was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $25,000 bond.
