Cleveland police ask TBI to investigate prosecutor

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Police Department has asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to handle a complaint that 10th Judicial District Attorney Steve Bebb assaulted a female assistant district attorney in his office.

Police spokeswoman Evie West said Cynthia LeCroy Schemel filed a complaint Friday saying Bebb assaulted her on Wednesday.

No details were provided, but Schemel told the Chattanooga Times Free Press on Saturday that Bebb yelled at her, grabbed her and cocked a fist at her.

West said the case is an active investigation and no more information will be released until authorized by the TBI.
