WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WATE) - The Whitley County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in finding persons of interest after discovering a mobile meth lab inside a wrecked vehicle.

Officers were called Thursday night just before 9 p.m. to a wreck near the intersection of Highway 204 and Gibson Lane.

A 2001 four-door Mazda car, tan in color, had hit the embankment and flipped several times, according to witnesses.

A witness reported two people climbed out of the vehicle and ran off before police arrived.

Deputies noticed a strong chemical odor coming from inside the vehicle. It was then determined an active meth lab was inside.

The roadway was closed until just before midnight for the safety of the public as crews cleaned up the meth lab.

Deputies are currently looking into a person of interest in the case, but is asking the public to call the Sheriff's office at (606) 549-6006 or Whitley County Dispatch at (606) 549-6017 to contribute any information.

Deputies say the persons of interest may be injured and may need to seek medical attention.
