MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WATE) - According to our ABC affiliate KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, Minn, Minnesota Head Coach Richard Pitino is not interested in the vacant Tennessee Head Coaching position. KSTP-TV cites a "good source."
Pitino was projected to be on Tennessee's list of top candidates for the position despite only having 2 years of head coaching experience.
Pitino is the 32-year-old son of Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino.
He led the Gophers to a 25-13 record this season, 8-10 in the Big Ten and they captured the NIT Championship.
Pitino is currently in his first year of a 6-year contract with the Gophers.
Prior to Minnesota, Richard Pitino was the head coach at Florida International University. He led the Panthers to an 18-14 record. Those 18 wins are the most at FIU since 1997-98. He also took the Panthers to the Sun Belt Conference Championship game for the first time.
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, he is making $1.2 million and his buyout is $1.5 million.
