WASHINGTON, D.C. (WATE) - President Barack Obama took a moment to remember the life and service of former Grace Christian Academy player Will McKamey on Friday.

McKamey, a freshman at the U.S. Naval Academy, collapsed on the field during practice in March. He died at a Baltimore hospital a few days later.

President Obama was presenting the Commander-in-Chief's trophy to the players for their accomplishments on the field when he singled out another of their accomplishments.

"Last month, I know that all of us were mourning the loss of Will McKamey," President Obama said. "Two bus loads of classmates and teammates made the eight hour trip to Knoxville to attend his funeral, as did Coach Ken. I understand your motto for this season is I Will in honor of him. And that's what camaraderie is all about: honor, courage, commitment. That's what makes the mid-shipmen so strong, and that's what makes me so proud to serve as your commander in chief."
