KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Inskip Elementary School principal who was injured in a 2009 shooting is being promoted to a new position within Knox County Schools.

Dr. Elisa Luna has been named Principal Support Specialist and Community Schools Liaison beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

The position is new to Knox County schools and will be funded by a 21st Century Grant. Luna will work closely with the community schools program and provide support and coaching to elementary principals as assigned by the Executive Director of Elementary Education.

Dr. Luna joined Knox County Schools in 1996 as a special education teacher at Green Magnet Academy. She has served as principal of Inksip Elementary School since 2004.

Luna was paralyzed in a 2010 shooting at the school. Shooter Mark Foster was sentenced to 56 years in prison in 2011.

Jessica Holman has now been appointed as principal, taking Luna's place at Inskip Elementary School. Holman was appointed interim principal last year while Luna took a medical leave of absence.

Holman joined Knox County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Dogwood Elementary School, and also served for two years as president of the Knox County Education Association.
