Hundreds gather in Roane County for Relay for Life

HARRIMAN (WATE) - Thousands of dollars went toward cancer research Friday night thanks to the Roane County community.

Roane County's Relay for Life was at Roane State Community College and raised more than $40,000.

6 News spoke with one survivor who battled lung cancer for three years. He says events like Relay for Life are key in the search for a cure.

"You can see what it's done already just by the number of survivors," said Morris Henderson. "20 years ago, we didn't have survivors like we have now. And this is how you finance it."

6 Storm Team Meteorologist Julya Johnson served as the master of ceremonies.

More than 200 people, making up 30 teams took part in the fundraising race, and they planned to walk until 6 a.m. on Saturday morning.
