1 suspect captured, another sought after early morning armed robbery in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One person has been arrested, but police are still looking for a second suspect after a convenience store was robbed early Monday morning in East Knoxville.

Officers say they were called to the Kenjo Market, 7406 Strawberry Plains Pike, around 12:49 a.m. The victim told officers a man entered the store and demanded money at gunpoint.

The suspect then took money from the register and several packs of cigarettes. The suspect then escaped in a car driven by another man.

A short time later, officers spotted the vehicle on Asheville Highway near John Sevier Highway. Officers pursued the vehicle until the occupants bailed into a field on John Sevier Highway.

One suspect, Brandon Edmunds, 24, was captured after a brief foot chase. The weapon apparently used in the robbery and the stolen cigarettes were found in the vehicle.

Edmonds is charged with aggravated robbery, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and felony fleeing.

Police are still looking for the second suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Knoxville Police Department at (865) 215-7212.
