Cigarette dispute leads to arrest of former Maryville HS player

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Former Maryville High School running back Shawn Prevo was arrested Friday for assault after an alleged fight with his brother over a cigarette.

Ryan Prevo, 19, told Maryville police that his brother had come to his room at 915 Foch Street and asked for a cigarette.

The police incident report says Prevo told his brother no, and to leave the room. At that point, Ryan Prevo claims his brother assaulted him.

The report says Shawn "grabbed him by the throat and began to manually strangle him. He then picked him up and began slamming him on the bed several times."

Police say Shawn, 18, told them he had gotten mad over his brother refusing to give him a cigarette.

Prevo was arrested with bond listed at $2500. Police say he was the primary aggressor.

Shawn Prevo was a key member of the 2013 Class 6A state champion Maryville football team. He scored three touchdowns in the Rebels 44-7 win over Hendersonville.

Prevo has signed to play college football at East Tennessee State.
