KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police are investigating after finding two bodies in a home in East Knoxville Tuesday morning.

Police were initially called to the home at 4100 Alma Avenue around 11:11 a.m. to check the home. Police say the man living there, whom family members have identified as Gary Cooley, had failed to show up for work and could not be reached on his phone.

Cooley worked for the Knox Housing Partnership.

A co-worker had driven to the home to find his missing friend and discovered the door was open.

When officers arrived to conduct a welfare check, they found the two bodies.

Officers say they found signs of forced entry at the residence. Police say it appears both people found in the home are victims of a homicide.

Police are continuing their investigation by looking at evidence recovered at the scene and interviewing several people.

The second victim has not been identified.

Felecia Outsey has lived in this East Knoxville community for three years. She was shocked to see dozens of law enforcement officials surrounding a neighbor's home.

"This kind of stuff doesn't happen all the time around here. It is surprising," she said. "It's just heartbreaking that it would happen period."

Former Knox County Commissioner Diane Jordan, who used to represent the neighborhood and knows many people in the community, was near the crime scene to show support. She wants the violent crime to stop for the safety of the community.

"You get real nervous about this neighborhood and who would do something like this," she said.
