Sarasota Sheriff arrests 12 in online predator sting

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested 12 people for allegedly attempted to meet up with a child over the internet to have sex.

The Sheriff's Office says Operation Intercept III is an initiative to protect Sarasota County children from online predators.

Suspects ranging in age from 20-50 responded to online ads, online apps or social media sites and engaged in sexually explicit written and verbal conversations.

According to investigators, one suspect is an armed security guard who thought he was going to have sex with a mother and her 12-year-old daughter. Another is a 44-year-old man who allegedly agreed to get a 14-year-old girl pregnant.

Ultimately, investigators say, they all traveled within and to Sarasota County to have sex with a male or female child.
