Halls hoping loss leads to wins

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Halls softball team has been having a lot of fun this season. "We don't have as much drama," said senior catcher, Kelsey Whited. Less drama has equaled more wins and it has earned Halls notice outside of Tennessee. The Red Devils have already achieved a MaxPreps top 10 ranking this season.

"We were really excited. We've never really been ranked," said center fielder Samantha Warwick.

Halls has just two losses this season and put together a 28 game winning streak. It was having that streak snapped that the Red Devils hope propel them to a state title. Halls lost to Central on Friday, their first loss in nearly a month and a half.

"They're 14-17-year-old kids and, of course, they feel great seeing their name on the computer. That's part of being a kid and I think (the loss) brought them back to earth a little bit," says coach Bryan Gordon.

"It was probably good for us to lose a game then because we had won so many games, you start to think you're so good," added Whited.

The players say they had their best practice of the year following the loss and won their next game by 10 runs. Now that they're back on track the goal is to follow that track all the way to  a state championship.
