Local gym hosting 'Spring Fling' workout event on Saturday to benefit Relay for Life

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - One local fitness center is getting ready for an event where you can have fun working out, all while helping the community at the same time.

It's called "Spring Fling," and it benefits the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Metro Knoxville.

Adaptive Fitness Warehouse, which is located on Western Avenue, is hosting the workout event on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. It will feature a boot camp-style workout as well as a Zumba class. A $5 donation to the American Cancer Society is requested.

The event really hits close to home for Michael Holtz, the CEO of AFW. He was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer at the age of 43 in March 2012. Holtz says despite permanent physical changes caused by cancer treatment and surgery, he stayed active.

Brittney Cole, one of the lead trainers at AFW, adapts workouts to meet the needs of Holtz and other members with physical limitations. She says  people of all fitness levels can attend Saturday's event.

"Any injury level, any age level. I've got kids that come, parents that bring their kids and make it a family event. I've got seniors that come and bring their grand kids. Anyone can come and enjoy it," said Cole.
