KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man died Friday after a car rolled over him at a West Knoxville apartment complex.

Firefighters and police were called to Cagle Terrace Apartments, 515 Renford Road, about 10:52 a.m.

Investigators say Wesley Provost, 53, had gone to the apartment complex to help a friend remove a battery from the friend's vehicle. After removing the battery, Provost went to move his 1987 Nissan Maxima into a parking space.

The Maxima apparently had a bad starter and would not start. Provost then got out of the vehicle and used a screwdriver to jump start the car.

The car then started and ran over Provost, trapping him underneath. Witnesses put the car in park, but were unable to get Provost out.

Fire crews had to lift the car to get the man out. He was taken to UT Medical Center where he later died.

No one else was injured.
