Pilot injured in Middlesboro, Ky. plane crash

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WATE) - A pilot was burned when his plane crashed in Middlesboro, Ky. Friday afternoon.

Police say a Beech-Bonanza V-35B took off from Middlesboro - Bell County Airport around 1 p.m., bound for Texas. Some time of problem developed immediately and the pilot was forced to land. Upon approach, the pilot lost control and a wing struck the runway, causing the plane to veer off and catch fire.

The pilot had burn injuries and was flown to UT Medical Center. He was then taken to the Vanderbilt burn center. Although seriously injured, he was able to talk to responders at the scene.

Federal agencies have been notified. Officials from the FAA are expected to arrive Saturday to investigate the crash. The airport is closed and will not re-open until released by the FAA.
