KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County Commission District 7 seat is up for grabs and 6 News spoke with the candidates vying for the seat.

The seat is currently held by R. Larry Smith who is term limited.

Bo Bennett

Bo Bennett is a name you may recall from the 2011 Knoxville mayoral race.

Bennett is the director of a company that makes government software.

Bennett said he is the chairman of the Junior Achievement of East Tennessee Associate Board and co-chairs the Knoxville Bill of Rights committee.

Bennett said if elected, he wants to mend ties between County Commission and the school district while also prioritizing a senior center for Heiskell and Powell.

"The main things I hear when I'm out door knocking are all related to education and commission-wise we have limited power there but I do think we can work on our relationship with the school board and how we interact with one another and I think you have to do that almost on an individual level," Bennett said.

Charles Busler

Charles Busler has never been elected to office and this is first race but he did serve an appointed position for the Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission for more than eight years.

Busler has been a member of the Homebuilders Association for 35 years and is retired from working in Sears commercial sales.

Busler said if elected he plans to prioritize bringing more commercial development to Knox County.

"The main thing we need to do here in Knoxville and Knox County is to make more commercial development,” Busler said. “We need to bring businesses in here. We can do we can't bring in big businesses like Chattanooga but we can bring in nice quality developments."
