KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Donnie Tyndall stole the show on Tuesday night.
In a move that made national headlines, the Vols head coach signed four-star high school recruit Detrick Mostella for his 2014 freshman class.
A source with knowledge of the events confirmed the signing with WATE 6 Sports on Tuesday night.
Mostella is a 6-3 point guard who has received high praise for his offensive ability.
"There quite simply aren't many better and more gifted scorers in the country than Mostella," wrote Sout.com's national recruiting expert Brian Snow in 2013. "While slightly undersized for a true shooting guard, Mostella can finish in traffic around the rim because of his excellent leaping ability'" he wrote.
Mostella signed with Oklahoma State out of high school, he was released from that commitment and flirted with Pitt. Last year, he attended prep school in Indiana.
Mostella becomes Tyndall's third member of a quickly assembled 2014 freshman class. The Tennessee head coach recently signed point guard and junior college transfer Kevin Punter and post-player Jabari McGhee of Albany, Georgia.
Tyndall appears to have made a solid recovery after losing four freshman players signed by previous head coach Cuonzo Martin and the loss of returning players Darius Thompson and A.J. Davis.
The Vols are expected to officially announce the signing on Thursday.
