Northeast Knoxville church stands strong despite devastating fire

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A local congregation says their faith has not been shaken after a fire broke out at their church last week. 

6 News told learned last Friday about a refrigerator in the basement of Restoration Christian Church catching fire.

The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, but not before spreading to the sanctuary and destroying $3000 allotted for a food drive.

Nearly a week later, services resumed Wednesday night outside.

The pastors tell us they don't have a tent yet, and their furniture and instruments were also lost, so they're having to improvise.

Members say they will continue to serve god and their community despite this setback.

As for the food donations, the pastor says local businesses and other churches in the community stepped up to replace all the food that was lost and they were able to feed around 300 people.
