Tennessee's Ja'Wuan James drafted by Miami Dolphins

(WATE/AP) - Former Vol Ja'Wuan James is now a Miami Dolphin after being selected with the 19th pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.

James started all 49 games of his Tennessee career at right tackle and finished his senior season as an Associated Press second team All-SEC selection.

The Dolphins badly need blockers, and opted for one even after four offensive linemen were taken among the first 16 picks. They passed on a chance to take 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.

The pick was the first by new Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey. He replaced Jeff Ireland, who departed in part because of his lack of success in recent drafts.

James made 49 career starts, a Tennessee record for an offensive lineman.

The Dolphins gave up an NFL-worst 58 sacks last year, and four of the five starters from the offensive line have departed.
