Dozens relay for cancer awareness in Powell

POWELL (WATE) - Dozens gathered in North Knox County Friday night to raise awareness for cancer.

The annual Relay for Life in Powell kicked off with about 100 participants.

Several cancer survivors, along with some people currently battling cancer and their families and friends joined together to raise money for cancer research.

They each have teams and take turns walking the track for awareness.

"Everybody I feel in some way has been touched by cancer, but I'm a mother of a 10 and an 8 year old and I don't ever want them to have the mammogram or pap smear or anything and hear the word cancer. If we keep fighting, we can find a cure and that word doesn't have be to a word anymore to be used," said cancer survivor Amy Loy.

6 News Anchor Lori Tucker was the emcee at the event.

Her longtime friend Kim Hansard of Star 102.1 shared her story with everyone.

She is a breast cancer survivor and is doing great.
