KNOXVILLE (WATE) -  Moms all across East Tennessee are being celebrated Sunday for Mother’s Day.

Some local families took their celebrations to the water, taking their moms on a cruise down the Tennessee River.

It was all part of the Volunteer Princess’ annual Mother’s Day cruise.

"We're on the Tennessee River celebrating probably one of the greatest holidays; Mother's Day,” said Chris Burkhart of Knoxville, who brought his mother on the cruise.

More than 60 people boarded Knoxville’s Volunteer Princess for the trip.

Just like every year, the cruise was completely sold out, with families from all across the area wanting to say thank you to their moms.

"What a wonderful person, mentor, leader,” said Burkhart, speaking of his mother Jean Burkhart.

The moms were treated to an hour and a half long cruise down the river.

"It's just a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. Just a great memory that they'll never forget,” said Chris LeMasurier, captain of the Volunteer Princess.

"It's a beautiful day and I love to see the houses and the water as you go down,” said Jean Burkhart.

For many of the moms, like Jean, it’s their first time to celebrate this way.

"It's something very different for Mother's Day,” said Jean. "I think it's great. It's a wonderful idea and I'm excited."

For others, they’ve been before and keep coming back.

"We have a lot of repeat customers. A lot of the mothers on board have been on three or four different times,” said LeMasurier.

Either way, their families just want them to know how much they love and appreciate them, not only on Mother’s Day, but every day.

"Wow, mom thank you for all your years of being a great mom, being a leader and a solid force in our lives. We love you and can't say enough for you today. Thanks for being a great mom,” said Chris Burkhart. "We can't love our moms and celebrate them enough today."

"Oh it means so much. So much. They're so sweet and so thoughtful. I couldn't ask for better children,” said Jean.
