NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A cat is recovering after it was found with gunshot wounds to its front legs and taken to the Nashville Cat Rescue.

Officials said a Good Samaritan contacted the rescue organization after finding Timmy at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville.

Both of his front legs had been shot. X-rays showed the bullet fragments that tore apart his front legs.

Veterinarians at Blue Pearl in Brentwood performed a two-hour surgery Tuesday. One of Timmy’s legs had to be amputated, and the other needed metal plating.

“It was caught early enough that we were able to do something about it. Had it been much longer, he might have bled to death,” said Dr. Katherine Smith with Blue Pearl.

Officials said Timmy will stay with a foster family while he recovers, and once he’s feeling better, he’ll be up for adoption.
