BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
A family's cat is being credited for saving a four-year-old boy from a vicious dog attack Tuesday afternoon.
ABC News reported Jeremy Triantafilo was riding his bike outside his California home when a neighbor’s dog ran up to him and bit him on his left leg before the family cat pounced on the canine and chased him away.
The whole ordeal was captured on the Triantafilo family’s home surveillance camera.
“We both gasped and said, ‘Holy cow!’ father Roger Triantafilo told ABC News. “We couldn’t believe that happened.”
Wife Erika added, “To have her, with no regard for her own life, fly at the dog to protect [Jeremy]. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Jeremy suffered two lacerations and had to receive stitches. The dog has since been taken to an animal shelter to undergo observation
Roger said the heroic cat, named Tara, followed him and his wife home from a park in 2008.
The couple said Tara and Jeremy have a special bond and that the feline used to sleep in his crib with the boy.
Jeremy lovingly referred to his pet as his “hero” following the attack.
