Former UT official sentenced to prison on child porn charges

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A former University of Tennessee official was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

Bruce Downsbrough, 61, was sentenced to 121 months in prison and ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution to victims and a $75,000 fine. He was also placed on supervised release for a period of 10 years and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Downsbrough pleaded guilty to the charges of receiving and possessing child pornography in October 2013. Officials said Downsbrough ordered child pornography through the mail. After obtaining a search warrant, officials seized his computer and found he had also been accessing and downloading child pornography on the Internet.

Downsbrough was formerly the UT Foundation Executive vice president and COO. He was fired from that position in May 2013 after his arrest on campus.
