KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A 6 News viewer recently wrote to Streetwise asking about truck lane restrictions when traveling Interstate 40 eastbound in West Knoxville. Trucks on I-40 are required to drive in the outside two lanes until the Gallaher View interchange, but this viewer wants to see those restrictions lifted earlier.

Viewer John says with the truckers forced to drive in the outside two lanes, it makes merging from Pellissippi Parkway, Cedar Bluff and Walker Springs much more difficult.

We contacted the Tennessee Department of Transportation. They say the lane limits are not set in stone and if there is a need to review them, it can be done.

Road project alerts

For the next several days, KUB will be implementing lane closures along sections of White Avenue in the Fort Sanders area, about a block off Cumberland Avenue. The focus will be the areas between James Agee Street and 13th Street.

This is all in preparation for a three-month KUB wastewater improvement project set to kick off on May 21.

If you live on or frequent Cherokee Trail behind UT Medical Center, a repaving project is kicking off Friday and will run through the end of next week. The main focus will be the intersection of Cherokee Trail and Edington Road, but the entire project will run from Cherokee Bluff Drive to Scottish Pike.

Crews are scheduled to be out working from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, weather permitting.
