Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tennessee Valley (BBBS) has partnered with Project GRAD schools to provide Big Brother & Big Sister mentors to selected children. School-Based Mentoring is offered at Beaumont, Lonsdale, Maynard, Green, Sarah Moore Greene, South Knoxville, and Spring Hill Elementary Schools. The program encourages volunteers to spend one hour a week with their "Little" at the school. Several different schedule times are available to fit the volunteer's schedule. Research has proven that the relationship will improve the child's educational experience.
In addition to the school-based program, BBBS has more than 180 children on the waiting list for the community-based program. Each of these children is in need of a caring adult volunteer with whom to build a life-changing relationship. Community-Based Mentoring offers opportunities for adults to build relationships with children on weekends, in the evenings, during summer days... anytime that is convenient for the adult, child, & family.
If you are interested in volunteering in either program, contact Vivian Gwinn, Program Director, at 523-2179, extension 12.
