GATLINBURG (AP) - Great Smoky Mountains National Park will have a new acting superintendent beginning next month.

National Park Service Southeast Regional Director Stan Austin announced that Cindy MacLeod will replace Pedro Ramos as of June 1. Ramos has been acting superintendent since January and will return to his post as superintendent of Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida.

MacLeod is superintendent of Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia.

Austin says MacLeod is experienced and will bring leadership and energy to the Smokies until the search for a permanent superintendent is completed.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park has more than 9 million visitors a year, making it the nation's most visited national park.
