KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman in West Knoxville Monday afternoon after a short pursuit in an allegedly stolen car.

Deputies say the car, a 2005 Subaru Impreza, was stolen from a Weigel's on Central Avenue Pike around 9 a.m. when it was left in front of the store with the engine running as the owner ran into the store for a few minutes.

Around 2:40 p.m., a KCSO officer recognized the car as it was speeding and weaving through heavy traffic on I-40.

The female driver exited on Gallaher View and the officer pursued her to Middlebrook Pike. The pursuit ended on Papermill Drive when other officers boxed in the car.

Deputies took the woman into custody. The incident blocked traffic on Papermill for nearly an hour.

The woman has not yet been identified.
